Betty’s Breast Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to education, prevention, and early detection of breast cancer, especially among uninsured and underserved women, including immigrant communities regardless of legal status.
We work to remove barriers such as language, lack of access to healthcare, and limited knowledge of the medical system. These barriers can delay care and impact not only women’s health, but also the well-being of their families.
Our journey began with a deeply personal and heartbreaking moment
A young woman from El Salvador, Roberta, lost her life to cancer, leaving behind her husband and three young daughters. At that same time, our founder, Betty was completing her own breast cancer treatment, a period filled with fear, uncertainty, and reflection.
During that journey, Betty realized how critical it is to have support from people who speak your language and truly understand your experience. No one should face cancer alone, especially not in silence or confusion.
Inspired by Roberta’s memory, Betty saw the urgent need to create a safe, welcoming space for Spanish-speaking women navigating cancer. What started as small gatherings in Betty’s home, sharing meals, stories, and strength, grew into a community rooted in compassion and hope.
On December 18, 2010, just ten days after Roberta’s passing, Betty’s Breast Cancer Foundation was born. Betty made a promise to continue supporting women like her and that promise continues to guide us today.

Led by breast cancer survivor Betty Rodríguez, our foundation combines lived experience with community-centered care. We proudly collaborate with government agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations to create a more equitable and compassionate healthcare system.

What We Do

About Our Founder
Betty Rodríguez is a breast cancer survivor and the Founder, Director, and CEO of the foundation. Her personal journey fuels her mission to ensure that no woman is left behind in the fight against breast cancer.
She leads initiatives such as mobile mammogram programs that bring free screenings directly into communities across Nassau County because early detection saves lives.
Beyond her advocacy work, Betty is a pastry chef, a poet, and a published author. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She is a proud spouse, mother, and grandmother whose family continues to inspire her dedication to helping others.
